Requiring no separate introduction, the University of Oxford is one of the best universities in the world. Ranked 5th in the world for Computer Science and Information Systems, Oxford University’s masters in cyber security delves into the intricacies of systems security, emphasising on the security properties and implications of software and information technologies. This postgraduate course in cybersecurity is also certified by UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
Offered by their Department of Computer Science, this cybersecurity course offers multiple modules in the study of systems security ranging from design to forensics; from governance to malware; and from wireless networks to cloud platforms. Each of their courses are taught by academic and industry experts, and the coursework includes classes, seminars, practical sessions and group work. To earn the MSc degree, students are also expected to complete a short project along with a dissertation.
Eligibility
The entry requirements for this course are as follows:
- A first class or an upper-second class undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as computer science, informatics or engineering. For a student applying from the USA, the typical GPA considered is 3.5 out of 4.0.
- While not mandatory, a minimum of two-years of work experience in software, security or data engineering is the typical background of applicants
- No GRE or GMAT scores are required to apply for this programme.
- Applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency through standardised tests such as IELTS or TOEFL. The minimum IELTS requirement is 7.5 with no band lesser than 7.0. A minimum overall score of 110 is required in the TOEFL iBT.
- A statement of purpose and three letters of recommendation
- If shortlisted, an applicant will be invited for an online interview.
Intake Dates
The course typically begins in mid-October (14 October for the 2024 academic year). The application deadline for international students to be considered for the Oxford Scholarships typically falls in the first week of January.
Fees and Scholarships
The tuition fee for this programme is calculated based on the number of modules you choose to study. International students are expected to pay a registration fee of £19,740 plus an additional £2,900 for every module.
