Mount Royal University began as Mount Royal College in September 1911. It was affiliated to the University of Alberta and then with the University of Calgary. In 2009, Mount Royal was awarded University status by the government of Alberta. Today, the university offers 12 degrees and 32 majors. Their motto is Quam Bene Non-Quantum, which translates to ‘How well, not how much’.
Why is it good to study here?
Ranked 52nd of all universities in Canada by Edurank, Mount Royal University is known for its small classrooms. This provides for intimate learning experiences and more personalized attention from the faculty. The university describes its programs as “future-focused”, indicating that they keep themselves updated on the current and growing needs of the market out there. In addition to conventional degrees, the university also provides diploma programs in aviation and social work.
Fees
The tuition fee for international students can range between $25,000 – $27,000.
Eligibility
If you are applying after high school, then you must submit your completed Grade 12 transcript with at least five relevant courses.
Two separate English requirements must also be met for admission to Mount Royal.
English Language Arts 30-1 (or an equivalent course administered by the university) if required by the program, and demonstrate English Language Proficiency through
- 2 years of full-time study in English in high school (Indian schools following English medium are accepted) or
- TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 86 or
- IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5
Courses offered & admission process
Mount Royal University has a plethora of courses to choose from in the field of arts, sciences, health and social services, education, communications, and business, as well as diploma programs in aviation and social work. Their undergraduate degrees are 4 years long and include hands-on learning experiences such as co-op education, apprenticeships, and internships. You also have some programs that are designed for university transfer, wherein you can take advantage of Mount Royal’s small classes for up to two years and then switch to another university. They also have diploma and certificate programs that are meant for upgrading your skills. Mount Royal also offers both credit and non-credit Continuing Education programs. For a semester beginning in Fall, applications open on October 1. Till February 1 it is considered early application. You can expect a decision anytime between November and May, depending on the volume of applications.
